Automatic cutting edge measurement The IF-EdgeMaster is a tool measurement system for automatic cutting edge measurements. Users measure form, chipping plus roughness of e.g. indexable inserts. ![]() Intuitive measurement in production Start the measurement on the touch of a button and receive the result within seconds: cutting edge OK or NOT OK ![]() Complex geometry measurements Also in production, the IF-EdgeMaster delivers robust and stable measurement results. ![]() Automatic wear measurement Users automatically measure wear and form deviations to a CAD-dataset or a target geometry. ![]() The IF-EdgeMaster measures all edge types The IF-EdgeMaster measures negative bevel, supporting bevel, basket arch ( “waterfall” and “trumpet”) and the classic edge roundness. ![]() Clear measurement results The visualization of edge measurements is easy and clear to understand. Comprehensive export and reporting options support measures to optimize process reliability. ![]() Roughness on the chipping surface The IF-EdgeMaster measures roughness along the edge and on the chipping area. ![]() ![]() IF-EdgeMaster: System, function, benefits, applications and technology at a glance |

The system: cutting edge measurement also in productionIF-EdgeMaster is an optical 3D measurement system for automatic cutting edge measurement. The cutting edge measurement device is used in research and in production. Users measure form, radii and chipping of cutting edges. Small radii and angles are measured regardless of type, size, material and surface finish. In addition IF-EdgeMaster enables traceable roughness measurement of cutting edges. The function: measurement of form, chipping and roughnessIF-EdgeMaster measures clearance, wedge, and chip angles, the basket arch form (“waterfall” or “trumpet”) as well as positive and negative bevel of cutting edges. Results achieve a high vertical resolution, even in a production environment with temperature fluctuations and vibrations. In addition to chipping users also achieve traceable roughness measurement results. The benefits: high resolution with high measurement speedIF-EdgeMaster measures radii from approximately 1µm. Results are traceable, repeatable and provided within about 20 seconds. Minimized user influence via fully automated measurements, robust and stable results, automatically compiled measurement reports as well as intuitive user guidance enhance efficiency in production. Components are measured without pre-treatment. The applications: cutting edge measurement of indexable inserts and hob measurementIF-EdgeMaster is mainly used for measuring indexable inserts. Wear analysis, measurement of form deviations as well as the automatic actual/target comparison of the actual geometry and CAD dataset are typical applications. Various adapters allow the measurement of drills, milling cutters and other tap tools. Hob measurement with the IF-EdgeMaster The technology: Focus-Variation for area based 3D surface measurementIF-EdgeMaster is based on Focus-Variation. The technology‘s high measurement point density enables form and roughness measurement of surfaces across large measurement areas and volumes. Every measurement value automatically includes information for estimating the measurement uncertainty. As an area based technology, Focus-Variation is already included to the most recent EN ISO 25178. Further details on the Focus-Variation technology
