The system: cutting edge measurement also in production

The IF-EdgeMaster is an optical 3D measurement device to automatically measure cutting tools regardless of type, size, material or surface finish. The robust technology of Focus-Variation delivers stable and traceable measurements also in a production near environment. Wear analysis, measurement of form deviations as well as the automatic actual/target comparison of the actual geometry and CAD dataset are typical applications.

The function: measurement of form, chipping and roughness

Users measure radii > 2µm as well as rake, wedge and clearance angle of cutting edges. Both waterfall-type and trumpet-type of the edge and bevel lengths are precisely verified. Results achieve a high vertical resolution, even under conditions such as temperature fluctuations and vibrations. In addition to chipping users also achieve traceable roughness measurement results at the rake face of an edge.

The benefits: high resolution with high measurement speed

A patent pending illumination technology enables optimized illumination of surfaces with short exposure times, leading to fast measurements. Minimized user influence via fully automated measurements, automatically compiled measurement reports as well as intuitive user guidance enhance efficiency in production. Measurements are visualized in registered true color information. Components are measured without pre-treatment.

The applications: from the green part to the polished component

Users benefit from high resolution measurements during the whole manufacturing process. The IF-EdgeMaster is used to measure the green part of a tool as well as the highly polished component in its final stage. Typically, the measurement system is used to measure inserts, drills, millers etc. Advanced visualization including registered true color information allows transparent and provable quality assurance.

The technology: Focus-Variation for area based 3D surface measurement

IF-EdgeMaster is based on Focus-Variation. The technology‘s high measurement point density enables form and roughness measurement of surfaces across large measurement areas and volumes. Every measurement value automatically includes information for estimating the measurement uncertainty. As an area based technology, Focus-Variation is already included to the most recent EN ISO 25178.
